Peter Bloch studied Philosophy, Theology and Classics at the University of Exeter for seven years before training as a teacher of the Alexander Technique in London. He has taught the Alexander Technique for 30 years and still maintains a busy practice and runs a regular weekly post-graduate study class for qualified teachers.
Peter has a broad knowledge of the theoretical models and the therapeutic practice of several existential and relational person-centred psychotherapies and many years experience as a peer counsellor. He has been developing the foundations of Bloch Healing as an application of the core principles of these therapeutic models through the modality of touch since 1992, and offering it to clients as a distinct therapeutic approach since 2005.
Peter is a practitioner member of the British Association for the Person-Centred Approach (BAPCA). The BAPCA was formed in 1989 for practitioners committed to the person-centred approach as the core of their professional work.
Peter is a member of the British Holistic Medical Association (BHMA). The BHMA was formed in 1983 by a group of medical doctors and students wishing to promote a more holistic attitude to medicine, an approach that considers the whole person, including mind, body and 'spirit', and supports the use of effective alternative approaches to health.
Peter is a teaching member of the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT). STAT was founded in 1958 with the objectives of ensuring high standards of teacher training and practice, and to promote public awareness of the Technique. It is the world’s oldest and largest professional body of Alexander Technique teachers.
Peter carries professional indemnity insurance and an enhanced disclosure DBS (previously CRB) certificate including barred lists checks for the protection of children and vulnerable adults.
